A New Year here at RCF. . .

Its been awhile since our last update and post, for so many reasons.  What a winter we have had here on the farm with the weather and the illness we've all battled through.  I must say the Holiday season spent with families and friends was remarkable.  We enjoyed our time at various events and occasions to celebrate the holidays. But when the New Year hit, and it was time to go back to school and work, we got the FLU!  Kelly and I were absolutely miserable starting the New Year in '18.  High temps, weakness and whining consumed both of us!  Whew, so glad that is OVER!  But onto the New Year!  We are very excited for 2018.
December came and went as we decorated with lights and a tree.  We've winterized the farm as well setting up heat lamps for the chickens and dogs.  The chickens had issues continuing to lay with the low temps and few opportunities to graze in the poor weather.  They've shifted their roosts to the barn and have been doing well and started to lay again.
Riva has been spending many hours inside working on her manners and training while the cold nights pass.  It's hard to remember we she spent most of the day and nights outside in the yard. She's so big and active, she belongs outside this summer! Yes!
The Boys have returned to school in the New Year and have been doing well with school.  No behavior issues to speak of and they are keeping up with their school work, maintaining high marks in classes.  All the while, they have been taking on Athletics after school.  Both are wrestling and doing remarkably well and enjoying the growth process.  For Cameron, its bit of a new sport for him.  As for Cole, he continues to enjoy the sport at the Youth Level and will hopefully be wrestling in middle school next year.

As time passed through December and into January we are developing some Cabin Fever!  January made it even worse with the ice and snow storm that hit on January 12th putting us out of school from Jan. 12th to the 18th.  The Ice and frigid temps (below zero a couple times in the lows) started it all and then ended with 6 inches of snow laying across the roads and countryside.  The horses have really battled through the cold and snow and now as it melts off, we see just how excited we are for March to arrive looking to Fly's belly and her struggle to move well anticipating a new foal!  We can't wait to see what we will have come March 13th!  Fly and LMCs potential make it even harder to imagine what we will see when it drops on the ground.  This will be our first foal and breeding here at Racing Creek Farms and we are geared up and ready to receive this gift from God.

Kleos in her stall - Always focused on something far away.
Our next opportunity to continue as horse breeders comes when we attempt to breed Kleos and create a Thoroughbred life and journey.  There is a lot of potential to break into the breeding and racing world here.  We are currently planning on breeding her to Niagara Causeway standing at Buck Pond Farm.  He is a lesser known stallion who has had some success breeding in the past and is at an affordable level for us to begin this adventure in the thoroughbred industry.

We've been working hard to think about and create a vision for 2018 and have already come up with a long list of projects, goals and future planning steps to continue our Dream journey through life.    Fortunately, we are continuing to grow, learn and LEAD in our community of Bardstown and continue to think how we can get better each day.  It is something we all value when we look to each other for support, growth, guidance, acceptance and love of our family.
