It was time to add to the Country Chicken Coop as our chicks have settled in. They've grown quite a bit since we've added them to the farm. Big Red has done well adjusting to their presence in the coop so we feel comfortable that all is going well.
With that confidence, we were able to come across a great deal and dream we had had in the past to own a domesticated Turkey! A Red Bourbon Turkey seemed to be just what we wanted to expand our little home and family! "Barton" (named a favorite bourbon) has done quite well inside the coop and has just started to puff up and Gobble! He is a 1 year old Tom Turkey just reaching maturity. Kelly argues we will be seeing more of him in November (gasp) however, I think he will grow on us and continue to hang around and call in the hens.
This morning we heard him begin his gobble and it was fun to watch him strut and call. Even more entertaining, was watching each of us try to call at him to get him to Gobble.
To each their own Turkey call!
